Dr. King

Dr. King

January 15, 1929 - April 4, 1968

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would have been 90 years old on January 15.  His life was senselessly taken away from his family, community, and world much too soon.   And those who marched with Dr. King are slowly passing on as well.  Their dreams and determination for justice and equity will soon be passed on to us to fulfill as well.  We are left with his words calling us to reflection and action.  No matter our country of origin, economic status, or ability, the "inter-related structure of reality" bounds us together as sisters and brothers. As a global community, we need one another.

At Humility Homes and Services we believe homelessness is a systemic, social injustice - a reversible circumstance and not a personal characteristic.  The "inescapable network of mutuality" is always apparent in our own communities and neighborhoods.  Here in the Quad Cities, we need one another.

“In a real sense all life is inter-related. All men (persons) are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be, and you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be... This is the inter-related structure of reality.”
